Even with models such as Hari Nef, Andreja Pejić, and Lea T landing major fashion and beauty campaigns, the fashion industry’s understanding and stance on inclusivity are still a work in progress. We salute the courage and tenacity of model and entrepreneur Peche Di, who tirelessly creates solutions to obstacles she faced, and opens opportunities for others. Peche started New York’s first transgender modeling agency, Trans Models NYC, so that her models could get the same respect and visibility as individuals. She started Teadate in 2015, a transgender dating app with more than 19,000 downloads. Hey, you can’t be honored as one of 2017’s Forbes 30 Under 30 for nothing! As a spokesperson and activist for gender inclusivity, Peche is also traveling across the country to speak on behalf of and amplify the voice of those who experience discrimination. We couldn’t be prouder of this trailblazer and are so excited to see this shift finally happen.

  • I was put on this Earth to:
  • Inspire other transgender people to reach for their dream & potential.

  • What inspired me to create my modeling agency for transgender models:
  • Witnessing hate crime & violence toward transgender people in the U.S. It triggered me to use fashion as a tool to let people have a greater understanding. Transgender people also face high unemployment rates. So, I created the agency for other girls and guys who struggle within the fashion industry. Simply put, the fashion world is not as inclusive as it could be. At the same time, with the increase of visibility of people in the media, I felt there was an opportunity and a moment of ripeness to inject something new into the industry.

  • How I overcame my fear of standing in front of a large crowd to speak my mind and my mission:
  • I overcame my fear of speaking publicly because I’ve faced the greatest fear which was the violence towards women.

  • The biggest challenge I face today:
  • The way of modeling industry works, is to cater to fashion brands rather focusing on the physical & mental health of the individual model. I find it very challenging because I want to cater to both models and the brands.

  • How I am evolving myself and my brand:
  • I’m evolving and surrounding myself with the things that I love to do.
